Shimza launched KUNYE (which means together in Xhosa/Zulu) in November 2020, an imprint that provides a bridge between South Africa’s emerging producers and the global stage with artists services company Platoon as its partner in distribution. Through this imprint artists like Thakzin, Blanka Mazimela, Darque, and global remixes from Louie Vega, Mele, Rodriguez Jr, Nandu and more have released a carefully curated expression rooted in Shimza’s ethos.
our history
From its inception (during lock-down) Shimza invited a selection of artists to perform in KUNYE’s weekly livestream sessions, which over-time evolved into a wild successful, multi-city open air live event in South Africa, Kenya, London, Paris and more attracting thousands of people to regular events, containing the community of Afro-house and Afro-tech fans in a uniquely aesthetic environment which exudes unity, community and African producer and DJ excellence. In it’s short few years of existence Kunye not only has a loyal event following, but has also become an official curator on Apple Music DJ Mix Series as well as is featured as label of the month on Beatport
Through both the events property, and the Label Shimza formed a new movement for Afro Tech Sounds, while amplifying his mission to unite people through the love of music.
